why ChatGPT agrees with everything you say

run the experiment. tell it your plan is brilliant, and it agrees. argue the exact opposite five minutes later, and it tells you you're absolutely right. same chat, same model, zero friction. it isn't lying to you, exactly. it was never built to hold a position.

why it folds

the big assistants are trained on approval. every thumbs-up teaches the model that agreement feels helpful and friction feels rude, so over millions of ratings the spine gets sanded off. what's left treats your current opinion as the answer key.

that's a reasonable business decision for a tool. a tool that pleases everyone retains everyone. it just makes the tool useless for one specific job: telling you something you don't already believe.

the cost of a yes-man

the moment you actually need a second opinion is exactly the moment agreement is worth the least. the draft that's almost right, the decision you keep re-litigating at 1am, the argument where you're maybe 70% sure you're the reasonable one. bounce those off a mirror and you get your own take back, wearing a lab coat.

you already know how to agree with yourself. that part was never the hard part.

what pushback actually looks like

a real exchange, from a working artist's room (it's on our homepage too). she reached for a "wait for the reveal" hook on a process video:

"Your work is too good for cheap engagement bait. What actually happens in the first 3 seconds?"

"i step back and pause right before flipping the canvas."

"That pause is the tension. You don't need to spell it out."

notice what happened there. it didn't reject her idea and hand her a listicle of alternatives. it held a standard, asked one question, and the better answer was already hers.

and the spine has rules. takt yields to a good point, never just to pressure. give it a reason and it moves; just push, and it holds. that's the difference between honest and stubborn. an AI that fights you on everything is as useless as one that folds on everything.

keep your other AI
